Palau Ship Registry gets its first ships

At the ceremony, held in Singapore on 28 September, the cruisers Amusement World and Leisure World, managed by Universal Ship Management Pte Ltd, became the registry’s first flagged vessels.

Mr Keith Lai, executive director of Universal Ship Management Pte Ltd, said: “We decided to change the flag of the two passenger ships that we manage to the Palau International Ship Registry because we wanted a flag that would represent quality, expertise and professionalism and also provide a fast, efficient and reliable service.”

The Western Pacific island country of Palau is a signatory of all major shipping conventions – including the Maritime Labor Convention 2006. Palau has a strong commitment to ensuring it adheres to all major international regulations and has a dedication to safeguarding seafarers.

Palau International Ship Registry offers a range of services such as various types of registration (normal, bareboat charter in and bareboat charter out), certification of seafarers, mortgage recordation, issuance of bunker convention and civil liability certificates, among others.

It is headquartered in Houston, USA and was formed following an amendment to the Maritime Act in 2010 and the adoption of the Republic of Palau Maritime Regulations.
