Palermo yard tackles cruise ship repairs

One of the jobs was, carried out at Trieste, where repair and conversion work has restarted after a period dedicated mainly to newbuildings.

Palermo tackled a number of routine drydockings in 2009 for Costa Crociere involving four cruise ships, Costa Serena (114,500 grt), Costa Pacifica (114,147 grt), Costa Magica (102,587 grt) and Costa Mediterranea (85,619 grt).

A four-month repair and refurbishment project was carried out on the 2000 built Spanish owned Ibero Cruceros’ cruise ship Grand Voyager. This 24,391 grt vessel underwent extensive maintenance, repairs, re-enginening, interior refurbishment and repainting.

In addition, Holland America Line’s 82,000 grt Oosterdam underwent conversion work at Palermo where a new aft section incorporating 32 cabins was installed in addition to drydocking and some interior refurbishment.

At the Trieste yard the 58,174 grt MSC cruise ship MSC Armonia was drydocked for routine maintenance and a Mermaid pod change.

For 2010, Palermo has booked two cruise vessels for drydocking, Costa Luminosa and Costa Concordia, while bookings at Trieste comprise MSC Musica, MSC Opera and Costa Victoria.
