The Far-Eastern Sea Shipping Line (DVMP) and the Polish shipyard Szczecinska Nowa Stocznia in Szczecin signed a contract for the building of two 1,730 TEU container ships. The contract has an option for one sister ship. The new building pair is scheduled for delivery during 2007 while the third optional vessel is due to enter in service in the early 2008. DVMP has a long association with the Szczecin shipbuilder having built six boxships for the Russians company since 1994.

In another move, DVMP and the Russian Railways have agreed to establish a joint venture for transporting containers between Asia and Europe through Russia. This venture is slated to commence later this year and will allow DVMP to gain a foothold in this lucrative and growing market.
