Port of Venice Authority award ISPS contract to MUSC

Maritime and Underwater Security Consultants (MUSC), a leading London-based maritime security consultancy, have been awarded the contract to conduct 31 Port Facility Security Assessments and Plans in the major Italian port of Venice.

Venice is one of the largest and most important ports in Italy, and MUSC have been chosen by the Venice Port Authority to carry out security assessments, develop security plans and also to train their port facility security officers ahead of the introduction of the International Ship and Port Security (ISPS) Code on July 1 2004.

The success of our work is of great significance to the Port of Venice and to the region. MUSC and Venice Port Authority are working closely together to implement the new security measures.”

Venice has one of the busiest cruise terminals in Italy and a large petro-chemical plant. The port also hosts a number of container, bulk cargo and grain and wheat terminals, which spread out over an area of over 5112 acres. The project started in the middle of May and will be finished in time for the 1 July ISPS Code deadline.
