PPG launches cargo tank coating
It has been specifically designed for use on IMO II and III chemical product tankers, typically in the 30,000-60,000dwt range.
Sijmen Visser, PPG’s global marketing manager marine, said: “Phenguard Pro is truly a game changer for the product tanker market offering shared benefits to both the shipyard, owner and operator by combining over 20% efficiency gains on application at newbuild and/or maintenance.”
“Based on our 40-plus years track record on more than 1500 vessels with this product technology, PPG has again delivered a top quality product that also represents best value to all stakeholders in the IMO II/III product tanker segment.”
The system has been developed from Phenguard phenolic epoxy product technology, this technology has been the benchmark in the chemical tanker market for over 40 years.
It boasts a smooth finish which is easy to clean, PPG believes that this saves time and labour at cargo switching and tank cleaning.
Ship owners are also said to benefit from well-document guidance and procedures for cargos requiring pre-wash to extend coating life.
Mr Visser added: “Phenguard Pro achieves in two layers of 125 microns, what all other tank linings can only achieve in three. The coating system can be applied in temperatures down to 5°C making it an ‘all year round’ solution that reduces the costs of heating for winter application.”
“With this addition to our product and chemical tank lining range we now have the most complete offer to this market with experts ready to support product selection with the best possible advice,” he concluded.
