Pumps have no grease

Termomeccanica has introduced a range axially split centrifugal and in-line pumps which do not require oil or grease lubrication. Both designs use the pumped fluid as a lubricating medium and to give hydraulic support to the impeller.

The centrifugal pumps come with a capacity up to 4,000 m3/hr and use composite bearings to accommodate the variety of pumped fluid. Without the need for seals to retain oil or grease, the main shaft is shorter than usual and half rings in the base and top of the housing form a seal with the rotor while causing very low mechanical losses.

For the in-line pump the spinning impeller is supported by the pumped fluid while using the same technique to form a seal between the impeller and the housing thereby removing the need for a thrust bearing. The impeller has a splined centre and is removed by lowering the cover on elongated fixing bolts.

With the simpler design the pumps are said to be 5?10 per cent more efficient with 70 per cent less maintenance and be about 30 per cent lower in cost.
