Among the more dramatic callers was the 49,746dwt chemtanker Silver Carla which came in for a shaft bearing change after an engine breakdown in the North Sea. She was towed to Wilhelmshaven and reports said Germany’s standby emergency rescue and recovery ship, the 200bp Nordic, which was involved in the recovery, itself had to withdraw for repairs after one of two cable winches was damaged in the operation.

Among the latest ships reported at the yard as The Motorship went to press were the 5,490dwt dredger Shoalway and the 5,600dwt general cargo ship Laida for work which was not detailed.

The 69,830dwt shuttle tanker Mikhail Ulyanov called for two weeks of hull hydro-blasting and coating with ice-resistant paint as well as for overhaul of two Azipods and class and repair work.

The 37, 500dwt dry cargo ship Nordic Dalian was among ships calling earlier at B+V. She came for Mewis Duct modification – as did her sister Nordic Alianca last November. Other early callers this year were the 88.1m cable layer Topaz Installer for docking and general repairs and the 8,820dwt container feeder Iduna for docking and shank work as well as propeller rudder and general repairs.

Pursuing what is now a speciality, the yard for some time hosted the private yachts Golden Odyssey (80m) and Eclipse (163m) – apparently for maintenance or refurbishment.
