Record growth for Nordcapital shipping
The Hamburg-based Nordcapital Group can look back on another positive year. With a total investment volume of ?636.2 million, 2004 sets a new company record for earnings. The main focus of investment was shipping funds, accounting for ?556.4 million, followed by some ?80 million in real estate funds. The accumulated investment volume was up to ?4.1 billion. New funds set up in 2004 attracted more than 5000 private investors, with equity capital of ?182 million. At year end 2004, Nordcapital had 82 shipping funds, six real estate funds and three private equity funds.
The main focus of investment in 2004 was once more on container shipping, with the financing of 11 new container ships (62,000 TEU). The Nordcapital fleet grew to a total of 91 vessels with some 300,000 TEU which represents about 8% (3.7 million TEU) of container ship charter tonnage worldwide. Ship management is mainly effected by Nordcapital’s shipping company E.R. Schiffahrt. It is one of the world’s largest container ship charterers, with 78 units in operation and under construction (350,000 TEU).
