Repair yard diversifies

Western India Shipyard Ltd has diversified into the lucrative areas of offshore rig repairs and ship building with a view to fully utilize the facilities of its dry dock and wet repair berths at its shipyard at Mormugao Harbour, Goa. The Company main business continues to be on repair of coastal and deep sea vessels.

As regards rig repairs, the company has successfully carried out major repairs to four jack-up oil rigs, i.e. JUR Sagar Jyoti, Aban III, Pride Pennsylvania and Trident-2, and has won major repair orders for 3 more jack-up oil rigs during the period from December 2006 to mid-February 2007. The repair revenue is expected to be about Rs 80 million from orders placed by Transocean Offshore International Ventures Ltd of Mumbai. The first rig named Trident 12 arrived on 26 December and the two others are expected at the yard in the first week of January.

As regards shipbuilding, the construction of the Rs. 18.81 crore jack-up barge PMC-1 for PMC Projects (India) is proceeding and the structure is expected to be delivered sometime in early February 2007.
