Rescue buoy projectile for pneumatic line thrower

Restech has launched a new type of projectile for its latest pneumatic line thrower, the PLT- Mini. It is based on the bigger Solas-approved PLT Rescue 230, but can also launch a rescue buoy projectile. The company says it has a throwing range of up to 90m and it can be launched either with a CO2 cartridge or compressed air. A 3mm nylon lifeline is stowed in a line box used with the rescue buoy. After the projectile has hit the water, the PLT-Rescue Buoy inflates within two seconds and will keep a fully-grown man afloat, says Restech. When inflated, the projectile cover acts as a sea anchor in the water, preventing any major drift of the rescue buoy. The lifeline has a breaking strength of 1.5kN. The PLT-Rescue Buoy is also available as a manual device for launching without the pneumatic launcher. It is then held in hand and manually thrown up to 27m. In this version, 30m of rescue line with a breaking strength of 3kN is stored inside and is fed out during the flight. This manual rescue buoy is designed for beaches, marinas, and yachts.
