Resizing reduces running costs

To overcome the problems, DMI offers a service to build up worn rods using a chrome alloy spray. In addition to bringing the rod back to its original size, the surface hardness is 520 Vickers (against 250 Vickers for the original) and is harder than achieved by induction hardening, says the company.

This process takes about a week and costs around $5,000 per rod. DMI can often supply an exchange rod to allow sequential replacement without an extended out-of-service period.
