Robot gets heavy

Gullco has developed a heavy duty version of its automated Moggy welding robot which can be used with submerged arc and MIG welding equipment. The unit can be used with any make of welding equipment and carries both the filler metal and the flux for creating the gases to submerge the weld area.

In addition to traverse speed and continuous or stitch welding options of the standard unit, the heavy duty version also controls the welding current and voltage, wire feed speed and flux delivery rate.

The four-wheeled unit comes as standard in a guide roller version and there is also a manual steer option. It is small enough to pass through a 457mm manhole cutout and costs around C$8,300 ($12,200).
