Rodriquez inks Oman contract

Rodriquez Cantieri Navali (RCN) in Italy signed a contract for the supply of five catamarans for the Sultanate of Oman. RCN will build five fast ferries at its yard in Messina and deliveries are scheduled by the end of 2008. The ships will be of two different types to be used for two purposes. Three ships will operate as ferries with a carrying capacity of 100 passengers, 10 crew units and 22 vehicles at a maximum speed of 41 knots. The other two will function as rescue vessels with the Coast Guard of Royal Oman Police and carry up to 200 rescued people at a maximum speed of 40 knots. Both types will have a length of 52 metres and will be built in aluminium with the same propulsion. Each ship will have four high speed diesel engines MTU 16V4000 M71 each with an output of 2,465kW.
