Rolls-Royce announces orders for four more ships

First is a contract worth around £16million to provide design, integrated power and propulsion systems and equipment for a large AHTS for Canadian owner Secunda. The 4,000dwt ship will be built at Remontowa in Poland to the UT 782 WP design, for a five-year charter to ExxonMobil, with options for 20 years, on the Hibernia and Hebron fields off Newfoundland. It is scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2015.

Secunda Canada’s co-owner, Siem Offshore of Norway, has contributed to the development of the new 87.3m long UT 782 WP design, which features a wave piercing hull form, optimised for North Atlantic conditions, and includes the latest safety technologies. A hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system and the Rolls-Royce Unified Bridge are included in the package, along with automation, deck machinery and cargo handling equipment.

Additionally, Rolls-Royce has received orders for propulsion systems for three ships from China Oilfield Services (COSL). The contracts, worth a total of £19million, relate to two research vessels and one seismic ship, all to designs by Skipsteknisk of Norway.The deep sea research vessels (ST 259) will each have six Bergen B32:40L6A generating sets, two US60 main azimuth thrusters, two UL255 retractable thrusters, two TT2650 tunnel thrusters and remote control systems. The ST 318 design seismic vessel will be equipped with four Bergen C 25:33L6A engines, rudders and steering gear from Rolls-Royce.

The research vessels are to be built at CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard for delivery respectively in the first and second half of 2016, while the seismic vessel will be built at Shanghang Shipyard for delivery in the second half of 2015.
