Rolls-Royce building servicing facility in Poland

The site will be home to a 2,000m2 marine service centre providing state-of-the-art repair and overhaul expertise to customers throughout the Baltic region. Last year, Rolls-Royce opened six new marine services centres in key maritime markets and now has such facilities in 28 countries worldwide.

The site benefits from having direct access to the Baltic Sea and being located within one of Europe’s busiest commercial ports. Construction work is due to start in the summer, with the facility expected to open next year.

Commenting at today’s signing ceremony Kim Kruuse, Rolls-Royce – area manager North Europe, said: “Poland is one of the largest ship repair centres in Europe. The construction of this new Rolls-Royce Marine Service Centre in Gdynia recognizes and strengthens the significance of Poland as a ship repair hub in Europe, and enables us to better meet the growing aftermarket needs of our customers in the Northern Europe region.”

The new Gdynia facility will be equipped to handle a wide variety of marine components and feature specialist machining capability to provide a range of repair services, including in-house winch repairs, propeller blade polishing and root machining. It will also have extensive overhaul capacity enabling routine work to be carried out on tunnel thrusters, steering gear, low pressure hydraulic motors, and hydraulic control valves and pumps.

The Rolls-Royce Marine business in Poland currently operates a production facility in the Polish city of Gniew where winches, tunnel thrusters and stabilizer fins are produced. By 2014 Rolls-Royce expects to have around 60 marine service engineers operating from its Polish facilities, more than double the figure today. The new Gdnyia facility will replace a smaller service office already located in the city.
