Rolls-Royce package for COSCO vessels

The delivery will comprise ship design and an integrated systems package including MTU-engines, a propulsion system, a power electrical system and a bulk handling system. Deck machinery and an automation and control system will also be supplied, along with a dynamic positioning system that uses satellite technology to automatically maintain the vessel’s position without anchoring.

Ronny Pål Kvalsvik, vice president, sales and contract – offshore, Rolls-Royce, said: “This new design was developed in cooperation between Rolls-Royce, the ship owner and the yard. We are of course very pleased that the confidence they have shown in us is now confirmed through the realisation of these options.”

The two Rolls-Royce UT 771 WP platform supply vessels (PSVs) will feature the wave piercing bow designed to pierce through waves in rough seas, allowing the vessel to keep a more constant speed, reduce fuel consumption and increase onboard safety.

This order represents the exercise of an option for a further two vessels contained in an initial contract for two vessels with the same yard and owner signed in October 2013. All four vessels will be added to the fleet of two UT vessels already operated by Chellsea.

Delivery is scheduled for late 2015 and early 2016.
