The Chief Deputy of the Shipbuilding and Repair Yard of Rosmorport, Vladimir Shtrambrant, has said that the Russian Government plans to open a tender to build a series of 25MW icebreaker which can also deal with oil spills.

During winter, the vessels should be capable of moving through two metre thick ice while, in the spring/summer seasons, the vessel is expected to move through three-metre thick ice blocks. These newbuildings would be used in continental shelf projects along the Northern Path and are slated for delivery by 2015.
