Russia’s Okskaya shipyard to build five tankers

Design and construction works on the first vessel started last year, while works on the remaining tankers began in the first quarter of 2014, said the Odessa-based Marine Engineering Bureau (MEB) which designed the tankers.

The bureau said that its RST54 project vessels of the Volga-Don Max class comply with the technical specifications for the Volga-Don rivers ship canal and the Volga-Baltic Sea waterway. The vessels can carry a crew of 12, and they are built to a length of 140.85m, according to data released by the company.

The MEB did not disclose the name of the entity which ordered the tankers.

Currently, the first ship is said to be 38% complete, the second is 29%, the third is 24%, while the fourth and fifth are respectively 10% and 2% finished, the statement said.

Established in 1907 and based in Navashino, Russia, Okskaya shipyard says it specialises in building medium-tonnage vessels. Its main fields of activity include shipbuilding of bulk oil and dry cargo vessels for combined navigation, as well as bridge building projects with the use of mobile pontoons and various metal constructions.
