Russia’s US$270m modernisation plan for Crimean yards

According to Mr Manturov, the funds will come from the Russian federal budget. At the same time, in addition to modernisation, the government plans to increase capacity at the yards. This is expected to be achieved through the replacement of fixed assets, the attraction of new orders, and development of new types of ships.

It is planned that particular attention will be paid to modernizing Zaliv, which is Crimea’s largest shipbuilding enterprise. Mr Manturov announced that initially Zaliv will focus on building military ships, and at a later stage it will see significant expansion of its commercial shipbuilding portfolio. The plans will include establishing production of A145 series high-speed vessels.

These latest state plans for support of the Crimean shipbuilding industry have already been welcomed by representatives of the Crimean government. According to Andrew Skrynnik, Crimea’s Minister of Industrial Policy, the provision of support is an acute need, as the current situation in Crimean shipbuilding remains complex.
