Schottel celebrates

Importer

Schottel has received a repeat order from Swedish shipowner Rederi AB Donsotank to supply a second unit of its Siemens Schottel Propulsor (SSP) podded propulsion system. The order is worth around $5m and the twin propeller SSP 7 (5.1MW) will be fitted to a new chemical products tanker being built by the Chinese shipbuilder Shanghai Edwards Shipyard. Scheduled for delivery in late 2002, this newbuilding will be a sistership to the 19,500 dwt Prospero which has performed faultlessly since it entered service in November 2000. Schottel has recently celebrated a number of production anniversaries including 50 years of rudder propeller, 25 years of pump-jet and 5 years of twin propeller. It has also just appointed a new managing director, Dr Peter Spies who will initially share the top position with the chairman, Dietrich Bork. It is expected Dr. Spies will take over as the sole managing director from 2002 onwards.
