SCI orders boxships from Hyundai
State-run Shipping Corporation of India (SCI)has ordered two 4,400 TEU container ships from Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries. These newbuildings will be the largest container vessels under the Indian Registry.
Earlier, SCI received delivery of a 319,000 DWT VLCC from Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and has plans to spend 140 billion rupees for 68 newbuildings by 2011/12. India’s trade through container vessels grew 21% during 2007/08, faster than previous year’s growth of 17%.
