Scott-Lithgow resurrected

ONE of the legendary names of Clyde shipbuilding, Scott-Lithgow, is to be resurrected under a new ship repair company at the Inchgreen dry dock in Port Glasgow, creating 100 jobs over the coming year. The shipbuilder ceased trading in 1993 after 23 years of decline when Scotts was merged with Lithgow in 1969 amid the nationalisation of shipbuilding.

The new firm is a subsidiary of the Merseyside company Northwestern Shiprepairers, which has carried out refit contracts on two Royal Fleet Auxiliaries at the yard. It now wants to establish a permanent presence at Inchgreen because contracts at its Merseyside dry docks are at “critical mass”.
