Scrubber order announced for 21 ships

The order is scheduled to be delivered during the first quarter 2015. Green Tech Marine says that using scrubbers enables ship owners to operate on heavy fuel oil instead of more costly marine gas oil, while staying below the strict IMO requirements regarding sulphur emission.

The scrubbers will replace the ships’ silencers; the company claims that the small size of the scrubbers means that no valuable space for passengers, crew or cargo has to be sacrificed. The scrubbers are of low weight, so stability of the ships will not be affected.

“The contract is another important step towards convincing ship owners that exhaust gas cleaning systems is the most economical feasible solution running on low sulphur fuel”, said Peter Strandberg, CEO of Green Tech Marine.
