Sembawang bags cruise ship refits

Drydocking and revitalisation of ‘Legend of the Seas’ was carried out in Sembawang Shipyard

At the yard in January for major upgrading and revitalisation works were Star Cruises’ Superstar Libra and RCCL’s Legend of the Seas. Royal Caribbean Cruises became Sembawang Shipyard’s favoured customer contract (FCC) partner in December 2012. Other ships completing work in January were RCCL’s Azamara Journey, which undertook its regular docking and repairs and Henna, owned by HNA Group of China and managed by Star Cruises, which completed a refit.

Ong Poh Kwee, deputy president of Sembcorp Marine said: “2013 is expected to be another busy year for Sembawang Shipyard in the area of cruise ship refits, upgrading and modification. Besides the four cruise ships in the shipyard in January, we have been awarded another eight cruise ships for repairs from various cruise ship owners and operators. These awards reinforce Sembawang Shipyard’s reputation as one of the world’s leading shipyards and Asia’s number oneshipyard in highly specialised cruise ship repairs, refurbishment and conversion.”
