seven seas mariner – Sailing the seven seas with Dolphin pods

Radisson Seven Seas Cruises (RSSC) added to its fleet of five-star cruise ships with the delivery from the Italian shipbuilder T. Mariotti of the Seven Seas Voyager. This 754 passenger ship is only the world’s second all balcony-suite vessel. More importantly, the 41,500 gt newbuilding will be unique as the first vessel to be equipped with the Dolphin azimuthing podded propulsion system jointly developed by STN Atlas and Wartsila propulsion.

The two pod units installed are type DDP395 each delivering 7MW at 172 rpm and fitted with FP propellers of 4.40 m diameter, giving a service speed of 21.5 knots. Wartsila also supplied the two 1,200 kW bow thrusters and a joystick system. In addition, STN ATLAS Marine Electronics supplied a complete propulsion system with synchro-converters, control and joystick system, diesel alternators, and a high-voltage distribution assembly with propulsion and mains transformers as well as bow thrusters.
