Shipping hosts decarbonisation event at COP26

Held at the University of Strathclyde’s Technology & Innovation Centre in Glasgow on 6 November as part of COP26, ‘Shaping the Future of Shipping’ is a day-long event featuring experts from around the world. Discussion will centre on key strategic issues such as the removal of carbon-heavy fuels, securing equitable decarbonisation frameworks to benefit developing countries and reducing financial risk.

The conference hopes to demonstrate the critical importance of immediate action and cross-sectoral collaboration. “A holistic approach is essential for the decarbonisation of the shipping industry,” said Emanuele Grimaldi, president & managing director of Grimaldi Euromed. “Only with international, cross-sectoral collaboration can we deliver an equitable carbon transition for shipping.”

The event will feature a ‘Meeting the Challenge’ panel for attendees, while logistics companies will bring the perspective of wider supply chain leaders. An exclusive ministerial round table will also be held to discuss areas such as policy and frameworks, innovation infrastructure and financing energy transformation.

“This meeting must be about the reality of change and the difficult decisions that need to be taken at COP26,” commented Esben Poulsson, chair of the International Chamber of Shipping.
