Stability software achieves 20-year period of use in Hong Kong

The local vessels safety section (LVS) of the Hong Kong Marine Department provides services in certification for the compliance of safety including marine pollution prevention and stability requirements as required by law, carrying out approval of new constructions, initial and periodic surveys. It has now added the latest Autohydro 6.5 license to its operations, bringing the total of Autohydro programs to three installations. Autoship believes this to represent one of the longest marine software client-relationships in the industry, the Marine Department having first purchased Autohydro 4.0 in 1991. Over this span of time, Autoship has been providing the naval architects at this Hong Kong location with software updates, on-site training and remote technical assistance.

Autohydro is a hydrostatic and stability program used by many naval architects, offering an advanced GUI (graphical user interface) and robust abilities. The program is claimed to be easy to operate and can perform detailed stability calculations quickly, creating comprehensive assessments, such as stability books, with a minimum of effort. Release 6.5 adds new functionality to the probabilistic damage assessment in order to handle recent changes to the rules for cargo and passenger vessels. For probabilistic calculations, setting up damage zones has been simplified by enabling the proprietary Modelmaker software to assess penetration depths and produce a zone definition file for use in Autohydro.
