Static goes dynamic

Software which allows dynamic information to be added to static chart data has been released by BMT Marine Information Systems, and the software framework, Visual Marine Information Systems, has been applied to a number of applications, says the company.

One application is an integrated port approach vessel scheduling system, developed in Hong Kong and used for predicting time windows for navigation, Another is a search and rescue simulation and search area prediction system, designed to assist in the planning of rescue of vessels or persons in distress, and used by the UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency.

BMT says that the software allows a wide range of marine environmental applications to benefit from the use of electronic charts.
