STX seeks government help in Europe

Importer

The Managing Director of STX Europe has called on the Finnish Government to place orders for vessels to help STX Europe?s yards in Finland get through these tough times. Martin Landtman said that the country did not have a vessel capable of fighting oil pollution in ice conditions. He also said that an order to renew the country?s icebreaker fleet would be ideal. Finland currently has eight icebreakers and the oldest one is 55 years old.

STX Helsinki, in particular, was in need of work although the Rauma and Turku yards had work to last them at least till the end of 2010.
