Thousandth ship signs up for bio-lubes

The ship is owned by Fednav, Canada and managed by Anglo- Eastern Ship Management, Hong Kong. Vickers says that Fednav has been a customer for many years and is satisfied with both the operational benefits and environmental protection aspects of biodegradable lubricants.

According to Vickers, biodegradable lubricants are a practical alternative to conventional mineral based lubricants which are more environmentally hazardous when they enter the environment as a result of operational lubricant discharge. Bio-lubes claim additional benefits such as extended working life, improved equipment performance and reduced equipment downtime which have more than offset their additional initial cost.

Vickers says it was the first lubricants company to make marine Bio-lubes commercially available (in 2002, following five years’ successful sea trials) and claims market leadership in this particular field. Since then, it has continued to develop and broaden its range of biodegradable lubricants in conjunction with customers and OEMs.
