Todd leases Navy dry dock

Todd Pacific Shipyards in Seattle, Washington, has leased the US Navy?s floating dry dock ?Resolute? after winning a bidding process last year. The lease is for a 20 year period and Todd Pacific plans to use the dock to repair commercial and Navy ships.

The 660 feet long and 124 foot wide dock will arrive sometime next week at Todd’s shipyard onboard the semi-submersible heavy lift vessel ?Mighty Servant?.

The ‘Mighty Servant’ and ‘Resolute’ left the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Virginia last month and sailed around South America en route to Seattle. The Navy moved ‘Resolute’ because it wanted more dry-dock space in Seattle for its class of ships that are about 500 feet long.

The 1944 built ‘Resolute? has a lifting capacity of 18,000 tonnes and, because the Navy stills owns the dry dock, Todd Pacific must give priority to repairing Navy vessels. The shipyard now has three dry docks.
