TOTAL updates marine lubricants analysis service

Marine lubricants supplier TOTAL Lubmarine has updated and improved its well-known DIAGOMAR Plus marine lubricants analysis service by adding a new lubricants test and by making the reports faster to use and easier to understand. The main improvements are the addition of the PQ index, the inclusion of a simple visual interface that indicates where action needs to be taken, and access to all historical ship analysis results.

Testing lubrication oil can also give vital information on the condition of the engine and its operation. Regular testing of viscosity, water content and the presence of insolubles, for example, can indicate malfunction and allow engineers to take action before engine problems occur. The new PQ index has been added to give ships’ engineers a rapid indication of the presence of magnetic debris in their oil samples. Taken together with the other DIAGOMAR Plus tests, this will help identify when engine or equipment wear is occurring, thus avoiding costly downtime.

DIAGOMAR Plus lube oil analysis reports have been available to Lubmarine’s shipping customers over the internet for several years. The system has now been improved to make it more user-friendly, to give more detailed information and to allow results to be downloaded more easily. The complete set of a vessel’s historic analysis results stored in the DIAGOMAR Plus database will be available for downloading and analysis.

The updated DIAGOMAR Plus reports are presented in a form which is clear and easy to read for the often busy and hard pressed marine engineer. A traffic light indicator gives the engineer rapid information that can be interpreted at a glance. ‘Green’ indicates that all is well, ‘yellow’ that there is something to investigate, and ‘red’ that urgent action is advised. All reports include comments from a technical expert advising what action should be taken.
