Transas simulator gains DNV Class A approval

This is good news for the company in itsellf, but Transas says that this also means that its Navi-Trainer Professional 5000 (NTPRO) now holds the most advanced certificates for navigational and DP simulators on the market.

Vladimir Ponomarev, product director, simulation, Transas Marine, said to The Motorship: “We clearly see the development of new niches where simulation training becomes more popular. Among those we could name offshore training sector (most of all, DP simulators), dedicated ECDIS simulators, tug simulators. Training solutions are focused to master those individual specific skills set within the simulator.”

The new approval certifies the simulator been as a Bridge Operation Simulator Class A with class notation ‘Integrated simulator system, NAUT AW (SIM), DYNPOS – AUT (SIM), HSC, TUG, ICE, AHTS’ and Dynamic Positioning Simulator Class A, as per the latest edition of Standard for Certification of Maritime Simulators No. 2.14 January 2011.

Transas says that it’s also the first manufacturer to acquire DNV approval of an anchor-handling operations module according to the latest standard. This standard is based on the requirements of the STCW convention which was significantly amended in 2010 by the Manila amendments. Mr Ponomarev added: “The DNV approval proves that Transas is capable to deliver the most advanced solutions in the marine simulation market to satisfy these specific requirements.”

Transas NTPRO supports simulation training and qualification for crews of ordinary vessels, and for High Speed Craft – Class notation HSC, and all types of tugs – Class notation TUG.
