Transas to upgrade US Coast Guard PISCES

Transas is to co-operate with Precision Planning and Simulation of the United States, on the enhancement of the US Coast Guard Potential Incident Simulation and Control Evaluation System (PISCES). PISCES was developed and commissioned by Transas for the US Coast Guard in 1998 and is currently used for exercises at two sites including the National Strike Force Control Centre in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and the Reserve Training Centre in Yorktown, Virginia. According to the new contract, Transas will upgrade the existing PISCES software by including the additional functionality available in the current version of Transas OilGuard 2000. It is also agreed that, at a later stage of the project, PISCES should be integrated into the multi-purpose Crisis Management System, also to be supplied by Transas. OilGuard 2000 is a simulation system designed for real-world and command centre response exercises. Simulation of an oil spill and the human response is provided. The system provides an oil spill mathematical model, an electronic chart system, simulation software, a database on response resources and debrief tools. Transas says its Crisis Management System (currently under development) will incorporate solutions designed to cover maritime and environmental safety issues such as oil spill forecasting and simulation, chemical contamination forecasting, marine emergency management and nuclear disaster management. The company plans to make each of these solutions available as an individual system or as part of an arrangement, tailored to meet the customer?s requirements.
