Transmission partnership offers bigger drive products
Through Centa’s partnership with German gear manufacturer Keller, shipbuilders and repairers can now source large gear components directly and , according to Centa, will benefit from the company’s range of design, production and maintenance skills in large-scale, specialised and complex gear solutions.
Centa UK’s gear division manager, Michael Sykes says, “The close proximity of the Keller and Centa manufacturing plants in Germany means that it will be very easy to create entire drive solutions through the integration of skills and experience and that we now offer UK customers a fully comprehensive service; from the smallest spiral bevel gearbox to gears of up to 4m diameter and bespoke gearboxes weighing up to a massive 160 tons.”
Centa is specialises in carbon fibre and composite materials technology for strong, long-span drive shafts. The company also supplies steel shafts and flexible couplings to the marine market and has established relationships with many gearbox manufacturers, The association with Keller enables Centa to scale up capacity and specify some of the largest gearboxes available for engine room and deck drives.
