Transpetrol upgrades fleet connectivity

Transpetrol has renewed its contract with Marlink, under which its 14-strong tanker fleet are connected with always available data and voice communication for operations and crew welfare. Marlink’s service utilises Global Ku-band VSAT, with L-band back-up. The service will also be applied to two planned new buildings due for delivery within 18 months.

Eirik Sanderlien, Fleet Manager of Transpetrol said: “With more digital applications becoming essential to the efficiency of our business, reliable connectivity at sea is more important now than it ever was. It’s vital that we partner with a provider that can guarantee always available service levels regardless of where our ships are. Based on our experience as a customer since 2011, we’re very confident that Marlink is that partner.”

The vessels will benefit from increased guaranteed bandwidth, opening up potential digitalisation service applications. Digital security is provided by Marlink’s highly resilient network itself and the deployment of SkyFile Anti-Virus on board each ship.

A centralised communications management platform combines crew communications management, satellite and constellation optimisation, along with Transpetrol’s selected value added services, including a secure platform for transfering and synchronising files with shore staff.

Shore staff will also be able to access on board networks for IT maintenance and troubleshooting, while web compression and filtering, data consumption monitoring and an enhanced firewall are also included.
