Turkey to construct mega shipyard

The largest shipbuilding facility in the Middle East is to be constructed in Turkey and is expected to go on stream within five years. The cost of the project, which is to build an 85,000 square-metre shipyard, is estimated at $390 million and the facility is expected to employ some 10,000 people upon completion.

A team of Turkish officials recently met and discussed the giant project with a group of Japanese experts who view Turkey as a suitable location for the establishment of such a facility in terms of its ready access to the Middle Eastern, Asian, European and African markets.
