Ulstein PSV agreement

The vessels, which will be of the PX121 design, have been ordered by Vroon Offshore Services in the Netherlands.

“The PX121 is becoming increasingly attractive to oil companies as it offers a competitive combination of fuel-efficiency and cargo capacities/deadweight,” said Sigurd Viseth, managing director, Ulstein Design and Solutions.

“This translates to a performance level that is usually expected from larger PSVs, but at a medium-sized PSV cost – delivering excellent value-for-money for the owner and operator. We expect to see more newbuilds of the same design type in the years to come,” he added.

Measuring 83.4m in length, with a cargo deck of 830m³ and a load capacity of 4,200 tonnes, the vessels are intended for operation in European waters.

They are designed with flexible tank capacities to support drilling activities with longer and deeper boreholes and activities further from shore.

Each vessel will have a maximum speed of 15 knots and will be equipped with dynamic positioning system, Class II to meet the ABS requirements of ‘Clean Design’.

They will also feature the Ulstein X-Bow to offer efficiency over a wide draught range, eliminate wave slamming and bow impact and reduce noise and vibration.

Earlier in 2013, Vroon ordered two of the same PX121 design and equipment deals. All four PSVs are scheduled for delivery in 2015.
