Ulstein sets up new company

The Ulstein Group in Norway is starting up a new company providing services to the international shipping industry. Named Ulstein Marine Services (UMS), it will offer services to the aftermarket, technical operation of vessels in service, and services for personnel/manning.

Group CEO Gunvor Ulstein says the establishment of UMS is in keeping with the Groups strategies of globalization and growth. “We are a significant player in design, engineering and production. Within operation, we have proprietary interests and know-how derived from the experience of ship owners. Establishing UMS will further develop and enhance our capability to provide services for vessel operation. From this, the Group will acquire key knowledge into our design, engineering and

production phases,” says Gunvor Ulstein.

Managing director of the new company is Jens Lassen, who has long and solid experience in the shipping business. He has worked extensively with process improvements and change management, and is a leading proponent for the use of new and modern tools and methods in the shipping industry.

“The most inexpensive way to run a shipping business in the long term is to have high quality and focus on safety. We will provide services that give our customers significant cost reductions, optimum operation and increased reliability. Our customers wont have to repair damages, because we will provide managed, preventive services before anything happens to equipment or operation of the vessel. Our aim is to be as good as the aviation industry in accident prevention, equipment repair and maintenance,” says Lassen.
