UMC International receives largest ever order for hull aperture blanks.

Importer

UMC received a boost recently when it secured an order for 22 ship sets of hull aperture blanks from Hyundai Mipo shipyard in Korea. Each set comprises 8 blanks plus ancillary fitting equipment and discharge bungs. The value of this order is £134,000, and all the vessels are identical 2,824 TEU container ships being built for various German owners.

UMC?s hull aperture blanks are designed to seal openings below the waterline against ingress of water while hull valves are opened up for inspection or repair. They are designed to take the external pressure loading while bearing on the hull shell, thus no load is placed on what could be a weakened inlet grill. Each blank is individually tailored to match the shape of the hull, ensuring a perfect fit and is neutrally buoyant allowing an easy fit by a single diver.
