Unithai Shipyard and Schelde Naval Shipbuilding have been awarded a contract by the Royal Thai Navy to build a 66-metre multipurpose vessel for conducting hydrographic surveys and mine countermeasures, the first of its kind to be built in Thailand.

The vessel will be designed by Schelde Naval Shipbuilding in the Netherlands and constructed at Unithai?s shipyard at Laem Chabang. Based on a proven hull form, it will be equipped with the latest hydrographic and oceanographic survey instruments to optimise its capabilities. The vessel is scheduled for delivery by early 2008.
