UNM liquidation confirmed

A French appeal court has confirmed the liquidation of ship repair yard Union Naval Marseille. The original March decision had been contested by UNM’s workforce. Workers’ spokesman Jean-Luc Guasco said the decision was “predictable”. Employees are hoping to persuade Finance and Economy Ministry officials to back a plan for a syndicate to take over the yard, Marseilles’ last general repair yard. The port is likely to offer the two former UNM drydocks out to tender.
