This represents a doubling in classed tonnage since 2000, which the society says is thanks to it grabbing a large share of the newbuilding market. Currently over 21% of the total ships on order are set for ABS class, claimed to be the largest number of newbuilds out of all class societies.

“This important milestone reflects our commitment to providing best-in-class service to the marine and offshore industries,” said ABS Chairman and CEO Christopher J. Wiernicki. “Over the past decade, we have made strategic investments in research and technology, workforce development and training programs in order to meet the evolving needs of our clients worldwide. The success of ABS is really a testament to the industries we serve. We are proud to work alongside some of the very best in the marine and offshore industries. At ABS, we are committed to quality services that leverage innovative thinking. Our goal is to help the industry construct and operate maritime and offshore assets in a safe, efficient and environmentally responsible manner.”
