Tidetech’s Malacca and Singapore Straits tidal current prediction data

Under the new agreement, Oceanographic data expert Tidetech will supply tidal current prediction data to NAPA, the ship software specialist, for the development of ship optimisation software for South East Asia and Europe.

Penny Haire, managing director, Tidetech, said that the agreement was reached following a successful trial which demonstrated “low cost efficiency gains by the use of integrated oceanographic data.”

The three-month trial took place onboard a 8,530dwt cruise ship using Tidetech’s Singapore and Malacca Straits models, which resulted in material reductions in CO2 emissions through increased eco-efficiency.

Tidetech produced a data model especially for the trial to cover the vessel’s full operating area of Phuket, eastern Thai waters, east side of Malaysia and the Malacca and Singapore Straits.

The trial success resulted in NAPA adding Tidetech’s North Sea and English Channel models to its UK and Europe ferry route software.

In addition to expanding its SE Asia model to Thai waters, Tidetech is also developing a 100m resolution model for the Singapore Straits and a 1km model for the South China region.
