Vessel Tracking : STN Atlas to upgrade Hamburg

STN Atlas Elektronik has won a contract for upgrading of VTS facilities at the Port of Hamburg.

Due for completion in April 2000, the project involves development of new signal compression and processing facilities for eleven existing radar sites along the River Elbe and port approaches, with introduction of automatic tracking of vessels` movements throughout the entire harbour area.

Five Atlas 9730 traffic displays are also to be installed in the Port`s VTS control centre, allowing continuous overlay of all radar targets on electronic charts as well as synchronised logging, recording and replay of event data, says STN Atlas. Ancillary equipment will include a scan converter which, the company says, will enable two differing raw radar signals to be combined to form single display.
