Work to build the largest shipyard in Vietnam?s central region started on Sunday in the country?s central hub, Danang city. The Danang shipyard, located on an area of more than 31ha in Son Tra district, is to be built at an estimated cost of $37.5 million.

It will be able to build ten 15,000 DWT ships per year and repair ships of up to 30,000 DWT. The shipyard is expected to be operational in September 2006. Last month, northern Nam Dinh province also started building a shipyard at around the same cost.
