The Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (Vinashin) is reportedly building six ferries to run on the north-south route in Vietnam. The 160 metre ships will be built at an estimated cost of $1.5-2 billion and each vessel will be capable of transporting 2,000 passengers, reaching a speed of 29 knots.

The first vessel is scheduled to be built abroad this year while the rest will be built in Vietnam.
