VLCC price breaks record

Greek owner Delta Tanker has ordered three VLCCs from South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for a record unit price of $156 million. This broke the previous record price of $154 million that Oman Shipping Company agreed to pay when it ordered its VLCCs from HHI and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering earlier in 2008. Delta Tanker is paying a premium for 2010 delivery slots.
