Edda Accommodation, a company of the Norwegian ?stensj? Group, is currently building a highly specialized offshore support vessel which will be driven by five Voith Schneider Propellers.

While this new supply vessel with a length of 130 meters and a weight of 7500 tonnes has not yet been named, the date of its commissioning has already been set for late 2009. The five 2,500 kW Voith Schneider propellers size 32 R5 EC/265-2 will be delivered to the shipyard for installation at the end of 2008. Three of the propellers will be operating at the stern and two in the bow of the supply vessel, resulting in a service speed of approximately 12.5 knots. This combination will provide the vessel with excellent manoeuvrability with increased safety and efficiency.

The hotel vessel is designed to offer accommodation for a substantial crew with a 900-bed capacity, 300 of them in single cabins. Additionally, the 27-meter wide vessel has two deck cranes a 260 square metre work deck suitable for heavy machinery.

With its DP3 system, the new vessel will offer the most advanced technology in terms of “Dynamic Positioning” currently available and, for this, Voith Turbo Schneider Propulsion not only supplies VPSs with fast control times, but also the roll stabilization. As a result, the crew can board the work platform safely via a gangway at the bow, even in choppy sea conditions. The telescopic gangway is fitted with a special device which adapts hydraulically to the prevailing sea movements.
