Wadan delivers second Norilsk Nickel vessel
Wadan Yards Germany with shipyards in Wismar and Rostock-Warnemünde delivered the second out of four ice-breaking container / cargo ships of the type Aker Arctic CS 650 for arctic operation to the large Russian mining company OJSC “MMC “Norilsk Nickel”.
Yard number 158 was named ‘Zapolyarnyy’ and will leave the shipyard
in Wismar on Saturday, 15 November with destination Murmansk as first port of loading to be integrated into a regular service between Dudinka, on the Yenisey river, and Murmansk.
Norilsk Nickel ordered four vessels of the 18,339 dwt type Aker Arctic CS 650 with a total contract value of about EUR 320 million in July 2006. The first vessel was delivered on July 31, 2008. A further vessel of the series is due to delivery in December this year, delivery of the fourth one is scheduled in the first quarter 2009. The order represents an important step in repositioning of both German shipyards to deliver more specialized ships.
